  • The service QuickBooksDBXX will be in On condition till your system is on.
  • In this mode, you get the advantage of multi-user mode, using TCP/IP to connect with QuickBooks. The QuickBooks user with a remote computer will be able to get access to company files using the database server that is working in Hosting local files only mode. 
  • A system with this hosting mode can host those files that are placed on that computer.

Hosting Local & Remote files

  • In this hosting QuickBooks Database Manager works like a normal process, as you are working on windows. This hosting will start working when you will log in to windows and stop when you logout. 
  • A system with this hosting will be able to support multi-user mode, by using TCP/IP to connect with QuickBooks. The QuickBooks use who has remote computers can get access to the company file on this computer by using a database server.
  • A local computer with Hosting Local & Remote files mode can host files saved in it along with the files that are placed on a remote system and opened on the local system.

How does QuickBooks Desktop determine which database server to communicate with?

  1. QuickBooks Desktop always searches for the .nd file. The .nd file is a very small text file saved with the same name as the company file, but with the .nd file extension. You will get this file in the same directory as the company file, which has the file extension .qbw.  The directory also keeps the information required to contact the server, such as the IP address and port.
  2. QuickBooks Desktop can determine if the .qbw file is working or not.
  3. If QuickBooks Desktop found the .nd file and detects that the company file is working then QuickBooks will try to connect with the server.
  • If it is successfully done then Quickbooks will open the company file.
  • If it is not done successfully then you get an error message that describes the steps you need to solve the issue. 

The Folder containing the file is not writable or is not shared

You need to make sure that the folder having the company file should be shared with other users.

No network connectivity

There should be at least one working TCP/IP adapter and then the host-name of the local machine resolvable.

Run IPConfig

You will find the IPConfig tool very useful in verifying the TCP/IP configuration on the computer. This will helps you to solve the problem by using QuickBooks on a network.
